Kansas City Breast Asymmetry Surgery

As one of the busiest breast surgery practices in the Kansas City area, I see many patients who want to have their breast asymmetry corrected.  Many women have asymmetrical (uneven) breasts.  Infact most women have some level of asymmetry.  Most women have no idea about these minor asymmetries until we show them at the time of consultation.

Having asymmetrical breasts can lower a womens self-esteem but can also be a challenge when trying to find the right bra.  Breast asymmetry is characterized by a difference in size and/or shape of a women’s breasts.  In some patients one breast is significantly larger than the other.  Other times, one breast may droop while the other does not.  One common form of asymmetry involves one breast that is small and flat while the other is larger and sagging.  Another type of asymmetry occurs when a woman’s areolas(the colored area around the nipple) are different in size, shape and color.

Breast asymmetry may surface at a young age, or can also occur as a result of weight loss or afer having children with or without breast feeding.  Removal of breast tissue as a result or a benign growthor breast cancer may also result in breast asymmetry.

Correction of asymmetry depends on the nature of the asymmetry.  Asymmetry of breast size can be corrected with the use of different sized implants and breast lift surgery(mastopexy).

For women with asymmetric areolas it may be necessary to reduct the size of the larger areola, to match the smaller sized areola.
